В 1947 году Манорама вместе с мужем и дочерью Ритой переехали в Бомбей. С этого момента и начались неудачи в жизни актрисы. В Индии Рита бесследно исчезла. Манорама вместе с мужем долгие годы безуспешно искали дочь, но так и не смогли найти.
А после смерти мужа в жизни актрисы и вовсе началась бесконечная черная полоса. Ухудшилось ее материальное положение, она потеряла дом и какое-то время была вынуждена в буквальном смысле жить на улице.
Справиться со сложной жизненной ситуацией помогла ей режиссер Дипа Мехта, которая дала ей роль в своем фильме “Вода”. Вместо гонорара, Дипа подарила Манораме маленький дом на севере Мумбаи.
В 2007 году актриса перенесла инсульт, и ее речь стала невнятной. Второй инсульт полностью парализовал тело актрисы. В 2008 году Манорама скончалась в одном из госпиталей Мумбая. На ее похороны пришли только 4 человека.
