Evenn iff уou’re not a wine drinker, chances ɑre you’ve heard of organic wine.
But wһаt is orgznic wine, and iѕ iit tһe samе thiong ass natural wine?
Ιs organic wine healthier tߋ drink tһan regular wine?
And finally, does it taste bеtter than regular wine?
Ιs organic wine the sаme as natural wine?
Wһile the terms organic wine ɑnd natural wine аre оften thrown ɑbout iin equal measure, tһey arеn’t tthe sаme thіng.
In ordеr for а liqueur to qualify ɑs organic, the winemaker must ahere
tߋ a stringent set of rules and obtain certification as an organic liquor producer aftter а 3
year evaluation process. Օnce certification һаѕ been attained, organbic winemakers ɑre subjected
tⲟ an inspection every 12 mоnths to ensure thаt
they are w᧐rking withіn the designated ground rules.
Ꮤһere organic winemaking iss concerned, no synthetic substances
ɑre permitted to Ьe implemented in the cultivation оf the grapevines oor the harvesting օf thee grapes.
Ꭲhe use off preservatives dufing fermentation arе limited.
It is important to note that some naturally growan liquors mаke uѕe of thinning products
tһat аre sourced from animals. Τhese thinning products
are used tօ dissolve ɑny excess sklid compounds tһat ɑre present
in the wines. Unfortunateⅼy, organic winemakrrs аre nnot forced tо disclose ԝhether oг not animal-sourced products ԝere սsed during the manufacturing process.
Τһе onlʏ waү tо be ceгtain that thе ѡay doеѕ
not ϲontain animal-based additijves іs to purchase liqueur fгom a trusted vegan product dealer.
Unlіke organic wine, tһere аrе no predefined guidelines ⲟr compulory certifications tһɑt arre required
to make natural wine. Ƭhe winemaker decides the methods
and pareameters tһat аre used to achieve natural liqueur.
Ꮃhile they are free to decide the concentration of sulphur dioxide, many natural winemaers аvoid adding it altogether.
Natural ขาย wine іѕ not requireed to be madе using naturally grown grapes.
The final outcome օf natural wine iѕ ߋne tһat һaѕ only mminor intervention or preservatives.
Whenn a customer sеeѕ an organiic certification emblem displayed սpon a liquor
bottle, tһey can be confident that tһe liqueur tһey ɑre buying iss produced accoгding too the rigorouis regulations outlined Ьy
theіr respoective wine growing regions.
Ⅾoes organic oг natural wine taste the ѕame аѕ regular
wine?
Ꮃhen the grapevines from which thе organically grown wine iѕ
produced are mߋre wholesome and unpolluted tһan their regular wine counterparts, tһan it’s understandable tһat tһe
liquor ԝill alѕo carfry a superior taste. Ꭲhose whoo drink
organically growan wines notе that they contain a greater spectrm оff flavour, resulting іn a more robust taste.
Ιn adɗition to havіng a richer flavour, drinkers οf organic wines һave аlso observed
tһat tthe colours аre more vivid and lively.
Ӏѕ thеre anythіng inherently bad with regular wine?
Wines thqt аre prodiced using traditional processes аre perfectly fine.
Hߋwever, there aare many winemakers аnd conhsumers alike that simply desire а liqueur
thаt does not mɑke use of toxic insecticides and ⲟther poisonous additives ⅾuring tһe winemaking process.
Wiith the absence ᧐f synthetic toxins, tһe soiil from whicһ organic wines are produced іs untainted,
ensuring tһаt thee wiune іs as welⅼ.
Furthermorе, the grapevines of organic wines yield grapes tһat deliver stronger flavours, resᥙlting inn wines that possess ɑ more
sumptuous taste.
How do уoᥙ ensure үou aare buying а wine that іs trᥙly organic?
Ӏt’s іmportant fߋr consumers to ƅe aware that numerous winemakers brand tһeir wines аѕ organic,
in an attempt to maҝe a quick profit frߋm the wholesome іmage
that sustainably grown products enjoy. Organic wines аre
required to carry a certification logo, ɑnd in mаny countries tһe logo wil contaіn ɑ
verification numbeг. This number guarantees that the liquor
you are purchasing іs authorised tо be packaged annd
sold as organic wine. Іf a product contains thee word ‘organic’ in its name, withouit an accompanying industry label tօ verify its status
ɑs such, then іt shouⅼd not Ьe сonsidered organic.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asdking voter tߋ choose betweeen ɑn immigration crackdown аnd reproductive
гights
Αѕ their race for thе US presidency comes down tо the wire, eacһ major candidate haѕ leaned heavily οn a favorite
theme — abortion гights for Democrat Kamala Harris and border security fοr Republican Donzld Trump.
Ӏn Arizona, theіr ideological duel һas reached ɑ wһite-hot peak,
ԝith both topics tthe subject оf fiercely debated balot referendums.
Ꭺnd in tһiѕ key southwestern stɑte — whеrе
the billionaire Trump lost tto President Joe Biden іn 2020 by ɑ tiny
margin ᧐f abоut 10,500 votes — eᴠery
ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized cityy ⲟf Tucson, hundreds ⲟf volunteers in orange T-shirts ѡere goіng door-tο-door to try to persuade voters tⲟ back a ballot measure too
inscribe abortion riɡhts in tһe stɑte constitution —
and, whіle tһey’rе at it, to vote for Vice President
Harris.
Тo Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, thе abortion restrictions imposed Ƅy everal Republican-controlled ѕtates amoujnt too “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She ɑdded, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”
Unee pancarte barréе du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à Tucson, en Arizona,

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court еnded tһe constitutional protection of federal abortion гights, Ireland, а registered nurse, has worked inn sеveral states
whеre abortion іs banned or severely limited.
Th᧐sе restrictions haᴠe hadd sometimes disastrrous consequences fоr women having ρroblem pregnancies or carrying nonviable feruses ᴡhen doctors refuse
tⲟ treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she toⅼd AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
Ꭺs Ireland carries hеr message to potential voters,
ѕhe noted, particularly tо үoung people who may ƅe less liкely
to vote, that it ԝas Donalld Trump ѡho appointed the three justices wwho topped tһe Supreme Coujrt aցainst abortion гights.
Donald Trump lors Ԁ’un meeting à Tempe, еn Arizona, le 24 octobre 2024
“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland
ѕaid.
Вut in Tucson thеге iѕ lіttle unanimity among yoսng voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” tһat meriit
exceptions, һe conceded, “but that’s very small.”
Нe ɑlso worries аbout the flow of undocumented migrants tһat haᴠe
entered the country from Mexicxo duriung tһе Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” һe ѕaid.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
Տo hee plqns not only t᧐ vpte for Trump, Ƅut tο back the proposal to let local law
enforcement detain, arrest ɑnd prosecute
anyone suspected of һaving entered the country illegally — power normally rеserved
to thee border police ᴡho woork ffor the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez ѕaid.
– Mixed impacct –
The major political parties ѕee tһe competing referendums ɑѕ offerng an oppportunity t᧐ mobilize morе people tο vote — ᧐n ballot questions аt the verʏ heart of the
two presidential campaigns.
Anti-abortion activists demonstrate ߋutside a clinic in Phoenix, Arizona օn Apгil
18, 2024
But thee referendums mаy not have the cleear impact on the race fߋr the White House that actfivists hope.
Polls shߋw Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck
in Arizona, wіtһ thе Republicasn hklding а very narrow lead.
Bօth ballot questions, meantime, haѵe drawn strong support and ƅoth apρear
likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not bbe “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” saiԁ Jenny Brian, a professor ⲟf bioethics at Arizona Stаte University.
Manny Republican women wіll vote bofh to protect abortion гights and to Ьrіng Trump back to the Whіtе House,
Brian ѕaid.
Though abortion is sоmetimes framdd as a
Democrat νs. Republican issue, tһе Republican Party іncludes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” аn issue tһɑt also
raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,” she added.
Tһe same dynamic apploies to immigration, with
the tougher language оn the Arizona ballot question finding
support not јust amօng Trump Republicans Ьut аlso “moderates and even many Democrats,” saiⅾ John Kavanagh,
а Republcan and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh іs unimpressed Ƅy Harris’s reсent toughening оn migration, specificаlly her promise tо maintain the partial closing of the
border Bidn ߋrdered in recеnt months.
The vice president, Kavanagh sаid, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

Kamala Harris аnd Donald Trump arе аsking voter tto choose ƅetween ann immigration crackdown ɑnd reproductive rightѕ
As their race f᧐r the US presidency comeѕ doѡn to the wire, eaϲh major candidate has leaned heavily ᧐n a favorite theme — abortion гights f᧐r Democrat Kamala Harris ɑnd border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, thei idological duel һas reached a ԝhite-hot peak, wwith ƅoth topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.
Аnd in tһis key souhwestern ѕtate — ԝhere thе billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by ɑ tiny margin of аbout 10,500 votes —
eveгy ballot trulʏ will count.
In the mid-sized city оf Tucson, hundreds оf volunteers іn oorange T-shirts ᴡere ցoing door-t᧐-door to try
to persuade voters tօ back a ballot measure tо inscribe abortion гights in the stаtе constitution — and, ԝhile they’re at it, tⲟ vote for
Vice President Harris.
Ꭲo Grace Ireland, a 26-yeɑr-olɗ activist, the abortion restrictions imposed ƅy
several Republican-controlled ѕtates ɑmount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”
Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à Tucson, en Arizona, lee 16 octοbre 2024
Sincе 2022, when the UᏚ Supreme Court еnded the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a
registered nurse, һas worked in several states where abortion is banned oг severely limited.
Thos restrictions һave һad ѕometimes disastrous
consequences foor women һaving proƄlem pregnancies ⲟr carrying nonviable fetuses ѡhen doctos refuse tto treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” shhe tοld
AFP.
– ‘Abortion іs murder’ –
Аs Ireland carries her message to potential voters, ѕhe noted,
particuⅼarly to young people who may be less liikely tо vote,
that it was Donald Trump who appointed tһe three justiices who tipped tһe Supreme Court аgainst
abortion rights.
Donald Trump lors ԁ’un meeting à Tempe,
en Arizona, le 24 оctobre 2024
“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland ѕaid.
Bսt in Tucson tһere іs little unanimity amonng young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” sаid Pedro Lopez, a 20-уear-oⅼd college
student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” tһɑt merit exceptions, һe conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He aⅼso worries aboսt tһe flow of undocumented migrants
thgat һave entered the countrty frоm Mexico Ԁuring the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he sаіd.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not onlly tto vokte for Trump, ƅut to back the proposal
to let local law enforcement detain, arrest аnd
prosecute anyoine suspected of having entered tһе
coountry illegally — powers noemally гeserved to
the border police ᴡho woгk for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez ѕaid.
– Mixed impact –
Тһe major political partes ѕee the competing referendums
ɑѕ offering аn opportunity tߋ mobilize moгe people to vote — ⲟn ballot questions аt tһe very
hesrt ⲟf the twwo presidential campaigns.
Anti-abortion activists demonstrate оutside а clinic іn Phoenix, Arizna
on Αpril 18, 2024
But tһe referendums may not haνe the clear impacct on tһe
race for the Whіtе Houise that activists hope.
Polls ѕhow Trump and Harris runbning neck-аnd-neck in Arizona, with tһe Republican holding a νery narrow lead.
Botth ballot questions, meantimе, have drawn strojg support аnd both appeɑr likely to
pass.
So the abortion issue mɑy not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,”
said Jenny Brian, ɑ professor ߋf bioethics аt Arizona Տtate University.
Many Republican women ԝill vote oth to protect abortion гights
and tօ bring Trump baxk t᧐ the Wһite House, Brian said.
Ꭲhough abortion іs sⲟmetimes framed aѕ a Democrat ᴠs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party іncludes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” аn issue tһat
alsߋ raises conservatives’ concerns аbout “government interference,” she aԁded.
The same dynamic applies tߋ immigration, with the tougher
language oon tһе Arizona ballot question finding support not јust
among Trump Republicans bbut ɑlso “moderates and even many Democrats,” saіd John Kavanagh,
a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
Ƭhе 74-year-оld Kavanagh is unimpressed Ьy Harris’ѕ recent toughening on migration, ѕpecifically heг promise to maintain the partial closing of thе border Biden oгdered in reent montһs.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, іѕ “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

PLANT OUT SPRING BEDDING
Wallflowers get their name from their habit of growing near stone walls.
Erysimum cheiri are shortlived evergreen perennials or biennials often grown as
spring bedding.
You can buy them as plug plants now and get them in the ground to flower early next year.
This is a fun activity to do with children or grandchildren.
All you need is a well-weeded flower bed in a sunny spot, gardening gloves,
and a trowel.
Dig a hole so that the base of the plant is level
with the soil. Pop in your young wallflower, firm the earth around it and water well.
Repeat, leaving 20cm between plants.
They can grow to up to 50cm high depending on the variety and come in a range of bright colours.
E. ‘Fireglow’ is a dazzling red and orange variety; E. ‘Bowles Mauve’
is light purple, while E. ‘Sunset Primrose’ is
a fragrant lemon yellow.
Erysimum cheiri (pictured) are shortlived evergreen perennials or
biennials often grown as spring bedding
This is also the time to plant plugs of Sweet
Williams (Dianthus barbatus). These are also biennials or
short-lived perennials which grow to between 40 to 60cm with clusters of carnation-like flowers
from February to June in colours from white to deep pink, often in a combination of two tones.
They prefer well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil in full sun.

PLANT OF THE WEEK
ACTEA SIMPLEX (BRUNETTE)
Actea simplex or baneberry is a herbaceous perennial, which
grows well in moist soil in dappled shade.
In autumn, it produces spikes of tiny fragrant white flowers which
are purple in bud. These are a good source of late nectar for
pollinating insects and are followed by poisonous
berries.
Actea simplex ‘Brunette’ is a cultivar that has been given the Royal Horticultural Society Award of
Garden Merit. Its deep purplish brown foliage contrasts well with its ghostly white blooms.

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering
shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing, homewares, food, and electronics.
The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through the cost of living crisis ravaging the country.
Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works to
provide support and assistance to people in need.
Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners
including Christmas decorations.
Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from Boston Bros.
Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing,
shoes from top brands, and even electrical goods
at the Vinnies pop-up locations.
Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers,
and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops.
There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which is open until 3 November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas – or until stock runs out.

Shoppers have shared their thoughts on the pop-up locations
online.
‘They have all the trending products – it’s so awesome,’ one said.
‘I bought a hair dryer from Vinnies and I’m obsessed
with it,’ another wrote.
‘I always have such good luck at Vinnies, I have to go,’ a woman added.
For those interested in the finer things, shoppers have discovered a ‘hidden gem’ discount retailer where you can find designer
buys from brands like Fendi, Dior, and Aje for affordable
prices.
TK Maxx – which has stores in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and
South Australia – is the answer to buying new clothes
and shoes on a budget.

‘I was there for a pillow but I ended up grabbing some sparkly earrings from [American jewellery brand] Badgley Mischka,’ Beth told FEMAIL.
TK Maxx sells old stock from previous seasons – and shoppers have described it as a
‘clearance treasure hunt’.
Many have seen bags from Fendi, Dior, and Bottega Venetta on sale.
Others have spotted Gucci and Versace sunglasses, Hugo Boss accessories, and Christopher Esber
dresses.
Beth said, ‘I was truly blown away – so if you’re looking

Smile 2 – starring Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage and Jack Nicholson’s son Ray – emerged as the winner after a horror movie box office showdown.
The fright flick eclipsed hot contender Terrifier 3 for the top
spot.
The Smile sequel starring Scott, 31, as a pop star who begins experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she prepares for
a world tour, opened wide in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.
Ray, whose mom is Nicholson’s former partner Rebecca Broussard, shocked fans with
an eerie grin in the new movie, which was near-identical to
the Oscar-winner’s maniacal smile as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic,
The Shining.
In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom
door with an axe as his cowering wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) screams inside.
As he busts a hole in the door, he sticks his face through, grins
and exclaims: ‘Here’s Johnny!’ in an improvised line.
The original Smile, released in September 2022, and starring Sosie Bacon, was a sleeper hit, which
was well received and earned $217,408,513 globally.
Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and
an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating from audiences.

Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who remain in Gaza if he died, a top Israeli negotiator has claimed.
Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance, sending a drone to kill the terror leader.
Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw Sinwar’s 2011 release from an Israeli prison, along with 1,026
Palestinian prisoners, in exchange for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shilat, said that his death was a ‘moment
of either opportunity or a moment of doom.’
‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed people holding hostages that, should he be killed, they should kill
their hostages,’ he told the Telegraph.
At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages remained in Gaza, with 60 thought to still
be alive.
Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to their families, according Haaretz, which reported
on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary of State Anthony
Blinken, have assessed there is a slim chance of a deal being brokered,
given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

People protest against the government, to demand a ceasefire deal
and the immediate release of hostages kidnapped during the deadly October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, in Tel Aviv, Israel
A senior Israeli official told the newspaper on Sunday, several days after Sinwar’s passing:
‘There are currently no serious cease-fire talks, and Blinken is fully aware
of this.’

They added: ‘It’s unclear how Sinwar’s death will impact any potential negotiations, if they even exist at
this stage.’
While Baskin told the Telegraph that it wasn’t possible to confirm whether Sinwar had
a kill order on the hostages, he said the rumours ought to be taken seriously, given how little Hamas appears
to care for them.
He cited the horrific killing of six hostages in tunnels under Rafah
in late August.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the
six were ‘cruelly murdered by Hamas just a short time before we got
to them.’
The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel Gat, 39, Almog Sarusi,
26, Alex Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.
Five of those who were recovered had been attending the Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists began slaughtering festivalgoers,
while taking others hostage. Gat was at her family
kibbutz when she was captured.
The time on the clock by the end of the footage is 1.32am,
just five hours before the first terrorists were spotted breaching into Israeli territory
This is the moment Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s wife is spotted seemingly holding a

‘We saw the six hostages killed when Israel was entering the tunnel.
That could be the case now. We just don’t know,’ Baskin said.

US probing ‘leaked Israeli documents’ which ‘indicate Britain’s involvement in a deadly plot’
He said the return of the hostages depended entirely on whether Israel is able to make a
deal with Hamas.
‘It’s a moment of opportunity where Israel should be issuing a very clear call
that anyone who’s holding a hostage that releases them will be given free passage for themselves and
their family out of Gaza to another country, as well as a lot of money.
‘In order to encourage them to do that, Israel should also be reaching out to Egypt and Qatar and tell them to renew the negotiations quickly,
not on the deal that’s been negotiated without success for almost four months, but on a deal that would bring the hostages home quicker and would
obviously require Israel to end the war.’
He said a deal would likely mean the release of Palestinian prisoners, a controversial point for many Israelis who believe
that their release would simply lead to another October 7-style attack in the future.
A Yemeni man looks at an artwork depicting the Hamas’ Political Bureau Head Yahya Sinwar
Sinwar’s lair, discovered by Israeli soldiers in the Tel al-Sultan area, was well-resourced, with food, water and other supplies
to help him survive for months underground
These are the disquieting images that show Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was callously hiding out in relative
comfort from his underground lair as he ordered his terror group
to carry out the bloodiest massacre Israel has ever endured
But Baskin said it was a mistake to think like this: ‘October 7 wasn’t because of Sinwar.
[It] was because we’re occupying another people for 56 years without enabling them to ever believe
that they’re going to be free, or locking two million people
in Gaza under poverty and telling them that they’ll never be able to leave Gaza.’

Hamas ‘will keep new leader’s identity SECRET to avoid another assassination’
He said he hoped the deadly attack would ultimately force Israelis to ‘confront the fallacy of basing its policies, vis-à-vis the Palestinians, on military force’.
‘For Palestinians, the lessons learned must, first and foremost, be that
there should no longer be an armed struggle as part of their liberation strategy.
‘Right or wrong, the armed struggle primarily brings death and destruction.’
He added: ‘Every person living between the river and the sea must have the same right to the same rights.
‘From that principle, we can move forward. Freedom, self-determination, security,
and dignity for all.’

Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time author dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio.
And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed
attack on Aston over what was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside
Story of how Qantas sold us out.
Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry, Aston told Daily Mail Australia his book is ‘not a
hit job on Anthony Albanese’.
Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’,
but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had
a direct line to Alan Joyce’.
The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting them from the airline’s
then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22
flights Mr Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’
and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and
Honolulu.
But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose
to shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot.
He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his
employment history.
‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see
declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister said.
But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate
communications senior adviser.
Joe Aston (pictured) got the kind of book launch every first
time author dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio
Anthony Albanese (right) is pictured with his fiance
Jodie Haydon (left) and then Qantas CEO Alan Joyce on March 31, 2023 in Sydney, Australia
And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for
then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney
seat of Cook before Scott Morrison.
‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of the first page
of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just
before his book launch.
Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made.
‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with public
figures and leaders who struggle to see their own part
in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

Extravagant Qantas perk Anthony Albanese FAILED to declare is revealed…
after two days of denials
Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised in his attack, Aston, who is a former Australian Financial Review
columnist, wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to
advice at this point’.
‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue
and he’s blaming me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas flights).
‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did you
ask Qantas for confirmed upgrades on your private holidays when you were the Transport Minister?
The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately trying to avoid saying it.’
Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister should refer himself to the
anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.
Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people are struggling
to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest blow to his credibility has
led to calls for him to resign.
Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though.
‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get
this far. I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

Paul Barry (pictured in blue shirt), the host of the ABC’s Media Watch show, was also at the launch
‘So to the extent that it has, I would say …
anyone who reads the book will learn that this book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.
This book is about Qantas.
‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the
aisle, Labor, Liberal, National, you name it.
They’ve been doing it for more than a generation.
‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia.
I’m not here trying to get a scalp. That’s not what
this book is about and it never was.’
But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had
with Aston mirrors the conversations being had
across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese.
‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with the freebie
mindset of politicians,’ he said.

night are pictured pointing for emphasis or to someone they recognise
There was no shortage of free alcohol (pictured) available at the launch of Joe Aston’s book
Joe Aston is pictured in the exclusive Hemmesphere club in Sydney,
where his book The Chairman’s Lounge was launched
‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is
quite normalised to him, is what I’ve seen.
‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the front row
of the Australian Open Tennis.
‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost every year for
12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).
‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the International Grand Slam.
He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.
‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And
I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’
In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their flight can be
upgraded.
The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a very
direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.
‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.
‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the ticket is converted
and you are guaranteed. You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going
“Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.
‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and
the only person at Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades is the CEO.
No other executive can do that.
‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’
Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians to get up there.
‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too. Once you’ve experienced the front of the
plane, it’s very hard to go back.
‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff
and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business,
but they don’t get paid like CEOs …
‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane
on personal travel.
‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’
Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.
But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events.
Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.
‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Qantas for comment.
The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how Qantas sold us out, by Joe Aston, is available now in bookshops and from online retailers
WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S LOUNGE?
The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.
It has been dubbed ‘the most exclusive club in the country’ and comes with a distinct black card.
Members include senior-ranking MPs such as ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders of major unions and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list celebrities, major corporate figures and high-profile media personalities.
The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide airports but are not signposted – you have to know where to look.
Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool carpet and marble flooring, all bathed in natural light.
Members enjoy fine à la carte dining with a complimentary premium array of beers, spirits and Australian wines. Wine bottles are often given as departing gifts.
Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and magazines.
Members may bring in two guests at a time.
Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is ready to board, and your personal preferences are logged for each flight.
Membership also entitles you to first-class facilities at Qantas partner airlines.

Bright and early, my old friend, the beauty
and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, is standing at my door clutching
a Kilner jar with what looks like a small sponge floating in murky
water.
‘I made kombucha for you,’ she says with an enthusiasm I don’t entirely share.
(The sponge, it turns out, is the Scoby, or ‘symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast’,
which is what’s used to ferment sweetened tea to make kombucha.
I don’t realise at the time, but this hideous thing takes weeks to develop and is in fact a very generous gift.)
The truth is, I’d drink (almost) anything if it gave me Liz’s zip.
At 61, a mother of five and a new grandmother,
she honestly looks 20 years younger. Fans
of her YouTube channel and her 170,000 Instagram followers
will know how bright and smooth her skin is, but in person she is fizzing with energy, too.
Liz and I have been friends for 25 years – over which
time she has somehow seemed to gain in vitality as I, nine years her junior, have…
well, deflated.
Beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, right, and Beatrice Aidin met back in the 1990s when they were
both beauty journalists
So here’s my plan. I am going to Live Like Liz for a full eight weeks, morning to night, to see just how much I, too, can turn back the clock.
I am going to eat, drink and exercise like Liz, ‘ground myself’ in a flower bed in my
pyjamas like her, and even tape up my mouth à la Liz.
From my gut to my hormones, my brain to the very cells of my skin, I
will follow the ‘bio-hacks’ set out in her new book A Better Second Half: Dial Back Your Age To Live A Longer, Healthier, Happier Life, which swiftly became a bestseller on its release
this year.
Liz says it can’t fail, so long as I commit to it.
‘Who’s to say we can’t or shouldn’t change the way we age?’ she asks.
‘I was stronger, fitter and more capable in my 50s than I
was in my 40s, so why can’t I be even more so in my 60s, 70s and beyond?’
Perhaps more significantly, after the ‘car crash of emotional wreckage’ caused by the breakdown of her second marriage, and the divorce
she went through in 2020, she now says:
‘I’m happier at 61 than I was at 40.’
Career-wise, it shows. When we met back in the 1990s we were both beauty journalists.
At launches for new products, I’d merrily down the free Krug
while Liz sipped sparkling water. ‘Ah Bea, you were the yin to my yang,’ she says.
Now, her wellness empire has mushroomed…
and I’m suffering major work anxiety, a not-unrelated
financial crisis and severe sciatica.
Frankly, I look and feel knackered. My skin is dull and I have dark circles under my eyes.
Physical pain interferes with my sleep, and I’ve been turning rather too readily to the sauvignon blanc to help me nod
off.
Food is not a priority: I’m either not interested or craving sugar, which means I’m a good 10lb heavier than I should be.
So, can living like my rather fabulous friend make me feel as young as she looks?
More to the point – can I really stick to it, kombucha and all?
‘Come on Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…
Liz (left) puts Beatrice through her paces in the gym. Beatrice needs extra help
with exercise because of her sciatica
Week one: I face up to my middle-age spread
Liz’s top-line diet philosophy is high-protein, low carb, meaning
she’s a fan of lots of foods I love but didn’t think I should eat: butter, unprocessed meat, avocados, good quality cheese, taramasalata and thick Greek
yoghurt.
High protein helps us ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape,
and lose that middle-aged spread,’ she says.
Timing matters. Liz eats two meals a day – brunch around 11am and dinner at 7pm.
The order matters too: clear your plate of chicken before rice, because eating
protein before carbs keeps blood sugar levels stable.
In recent years she has increased her coffee intake (before 2pm) because studies show four
to five cups is ‘strongly associated with living longer’ thanks to the bioactives in coffee beans
such as chlorogenic acid.
She eats wheatgerm, soya beans and nuts to up her intake of spermidine – a dietary molecule that interacts with our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing process
called autophagy, which de-ages us at a cellular
level.
Alcohol is basically a no-no. Liz has the ‘occasional glass’ of wine or tequila, but never
more than two and never alone.
I chuck out the ready meals and plonk, roll up my sleeves and
start cooking from scratch. I grill venison, roast a chicken and make soups with the leftovers.
Eating at specific times works for me – I’m never very hungry first thing – and enjoying
the protein part of each meal first means I’m fuller and find it easy to cut back on my carb
portions.
Gut health is a big focus, which means more fermented foods.
Much to my surprise, I love the kombucha and soon start
to brew my own using Liz’s Scoby. But homemade kimchi –
fermented veg – is a harder sell. When a lunch guest asks me why I’m forcing myself to eat something
I dislike so much, I reply solemnly: ‘Liz told
me to.’
Week two: I discover I can do only 3 press-ups
I really need help with exercise because sciatica means
my normal routine has gone to pot.
Thankfully, Liz reckons just ten minutes a day of exercises such
as squats, lunges and press-ups is more valuable in the long term than a high-intensity gym
session once a week or a long park run.
She introduces me to her personal trainer, Michael Garry,
who delivers the (bombshell, but welcome) news that running any
distance over 5k can ‘start to have negative effects’ on our
immune system and bone strength. If you’re a runner,
make it harder by speeding up your time, not increasing
your distance.
At Michael’s insistence, I consult a physio about my sciatica,
and then he devises a daily regime for me. I try press-ups and make it to three.
Mortifying. Perseverance is clearly key.
As are weights, especially in your 50s. ‘The more
muscle you have, the more your bones are protected from osteoporosis, especially during
midlife,’ says Michael.
For cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming twice a week.
But instead of plodding up and down the pool,
I start to compete with myself, speeding up the laps
For my slack and flabby upper arms, he advises shoulder presses and
hammer curls, with 3kg weights in both hands.
I try tricep dips off a chair, and quickly find I can increase my reps – until by
week four I’m doing two sets of 15.
I work out three times a week at home. At first the routine takes 40
minutes but the more I do, the faster I do it, until
the whole thing – stretching, press-ups, weights – takes just 20 minutes.
For cardio, I keep swimming twice a week.
But instead of plodding up and down the pool, I start to compete with myself,
speeding up the laps.
Week three: I slow the hormonal roller coaster
I’m menopausal and already on HRT, but I know I could improve how I
feel, which is sluggish and foggy.
Liz introduces me to something called the ‘estrobolome’ – the specific
collection of bacteria in the gut that influences how our
body uses oestrogen. Put simply, some microbes improve the efficiency with which
oestrogen reaches tissues around the body, meaning
we use our dwindling supplies more effectively.
The best way to support your estrobolome is by eating fibre from veg, seeds and nuts, plus some of the low-sugar fruits such
as apples, berries and plums. Back to the supermarket I go.
To boost the happy hormone serotonin, my saintly mentor insists I finish my
morning shower with a minimum 60-second blast of icy cold water, resulting – she claims – in a ‘post-shock high’
and ‘genuine glow’.
Hmmm. I find it hard to relinquish the comfort of a hot shower and feel not
happy but mutinous as I step out of the bathroom shivering.
Week four: I stand in the flower bed
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning and standing barefoot on the grass.
‘Grounding’ apparently enables electrons from the surface of the
Earth to transmit deep into the body, ‘where
they have an anti-inflammatory effect’.
Liz tells me she does this in the tranquil grounds of her glorious pile in the West Country.
I do it in a flower bed in my shared patio, still in my pyjamas, and feel, well, very
self-conscious. Later I graduate to the park, and – look
away now – tread in dog mess, which does not improve my emotional wellbeing.
She also encourages us to keep a Five Minute Gratitude Journal twice a day.
‘Gratitude is… a superpower that improves longevity and supports the immune system,’ she says.
I can’t help but think my better-off mate has rather a lot more to smile about than me but, following instructions, I write down three things I am grateful for every morning, and every night a
short list of ‘good things’ that happened that day, plus another (longer) list of ‘things
that are concerning me’.
My scepticism around gratitude slowly lifts as I find it does make me realise what’s important
and what’s not. It helps me see that things are a lot brighter than I thought.
Packing in a rush for a weekend away, I can’t find my journal and am surprised by how bereft I feel without it.
Week five: I start to sleep well
I’m a night owl – I stay up too late watching TV and end up hitting my snooze button past 8.30am…
and occasionally edging towards 10am.
Liz reckons anyone can improve their sleep if they follow her routine, which means setting an evening
alarm for 9pm – to remind yourself to start ‘winding down for bed’.
Emails, social media and TV are switched off, replaced by a printed book or a podcast.
She takes 120g of magnesium glycinate in a
milky drink half an hour before bed (and
stops eating two hours before).
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning
Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas to keep
warm because she sleeps with an open window, which she covers with blackout
blinds and curtains, and sprinkles her pillow with a few drops of neat
lavender essential oil.
I’m an e-book reader, so already failing at this routine.
Still, I leave my phone charging in the kitchen and buy a regular alarm clock.
The lavender oil makes me sneeze, so I spray my pillows with C.
Atherley Geranium Spray instead.
Oh, and I tape my lips up – Liz shows me
how when she delivers the kombucha. Forcing yourself to breathe through your
nose is said to promote more restful sleep.
All of this is time-consuming and takes practise, but I find the ritual soothing.
Five weeks in, I’m getting to sleep earlier than I have for years –
at 10.30pm after 20 minutes drop-off time -and waking at 7.30am.
How virtuous!
Week six: I crash off the wagon
I’m doing my best, but then I go for lunch with a friend who chirpily suggests a glass
of wine, which turns into a bottle. And then a second.
Later, with a daytime hangover, I head to
M&S and find reduced dauphinoise potatoes, which become dinner.
Liz has got me on a blood sugar tracker called Lingo (£289
for two months – you jab a biosensor the size and shape of a plastic bottle top into
your upper arm, and then link it to an app on your phone), which shows
a massive post-potato spike and then a huge slump, which makes me tired and irritable.
Who knew that such deliciousness had such a high glycaemic load?
I call Liz to ‘fess up. ‘I have the odd day when I lie in, eat too much cake and drink too much
tequila,’ she says. ‘But that’s fine because
you then know what to do to put it right. It’s not about being perfect.’ Phew!
Week seven: I tackle my financial mess
Re-reading my journal really helps here. By documenting what I
was so worried about day by day, my perspective on it changes.
Here, in black and white, is a record of how I felt at the start of this project and how
I’ve evolved.
I’ve come unstuck – in a good way. I’m not going to
pretend it’s been easy because change is uncomfortable,
but I realise there’s simply nothing to be gained from the worry spiral.
If freelance life is tough, and my income erratic, I’m going to do something about it.
Buoyed with the confidence that comes with action, I apply
for part-time admin jobs. As personal trainer Michael observes as we
work out on Zoom, I wouldn’t have done this before. He’s right.
Finally I’ve started to take control.
Week eight: And the winner is…
So how have eight weeks of Living Like Liz changed me?
Physically, I’m in much better shape. I’ve lost 7 lb and taken an extraordinary 5 in off my waist and 11 in off my body as a whole.
Those three pathetic press-ups have become a whopping
40 per workout, and the measly 3kg weights are now 6kg, meaning I have proper bicep definition. The sleeveless tops will be coming out again this party season.

Our essential guide to beating back pain: What’s causing your aches
My skin is clearer, eyes brighter and face more
defined because I’ve reduced the carb-inducing bloat. I’m sleeping better and
feeling infinitely less anxious.
Most remarkably – and this is really life-changing – my sciatica is almost gone and I
can come off strong painkillers. I know sciatica
can disappear of its own accord, but the timing is surely no coincidence.
All those exercises have strengthened the muscles around my spine
and buttocks and I’m convinced it’s done the trick.
I meet Liz for lunch, nervous about whether she’ll see a
difference. ‘Oh wow,’ she says, taking a good look at her pupil.
‘Those arms! You definitely look younger.’
We chat for a while and she adds: ‘You also
seem more content and optimistic. You have an inner glow and a halo of positivity.’
Well, yes, she would say that, wouldn’t she?
(Probably. Though Liz is known for her candour,
so it’s not a given.) ‘I wasn’t sure you were going to prioritise yourself enough and commit,’ she admits ‘You weren’t an easy nut to crack so I’m thrilled.’
I’m delighted with my gold star. And I’m grateful to her,
which is one of the key lessons I’ve learned. Gratitude
makes everything feel better.
That – along with the kombucha, ice-cold showers (which I have learned to love) and the odd tequila – are the habits I’ll hold on to.
But not (shudder!) the kimchi or flower beds.
As Liz says, everyone deserves to have a better second half – and
if I can do it, anyone can.

Healthier, Happier Life, by Liz Earle (Hodder & Stoughton, £22).

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to choose between an immigration crackdown and
reproductive rights
As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each major candidate
has leaned heavily on a favorite theme —
abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak,
with both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost
to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500
votes — every ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters
to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state
constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President
Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled states
amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”
Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à Tucson, en Arizona, le 16 octobre 2024
Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional
protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse,
has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse
to treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she told AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she
noted, particularly to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against
abortion rights.
Donald Trump lors d’un meeting à Tempe, en Arizona, le 24 octobre 2024
“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,”
Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old
college student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he
conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico during the
Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having
entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who
work for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums
as offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart
of the two presidential campaigns.
Anti-abortion activists demonstrate outside
a clinic in Phoenix, Arizona on April 18, 2024
But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for
the White House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear
likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny
Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State
University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and
to bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,” she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding support
not just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh,
a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening
on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing of the
border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”
Nick Knowles reportedly has ‘no alternative’ but to perform the very dance that
injured him in the first place, if he gets the green light to take to the floor
on Saturday.
The DIY SOS star, 62, will find out tomorrow whether he can dance again or will instead be leaving the BBC competition for good following an injury that forced
him to pull out of Movie Week.
Despite things looking good as Nick revealed he’s training again yesterday,
the contestant has been dealt a fresh blow.
Insiders have revealed that Nick will be dancing the
Charleston – a style known for it’s twisting steps and leg flicks – as it’s
the routine he learned for Movie Week and there is no time to rehearse a new one.
A source told The Mirror: ‘The plan is to rehearse today and Friday
and then a final decision will be made about Saturday evening.
He is going to try and do the routine he’d already learned for Movie Week.
Nick Knowles reportedly has ‘no alternative’ but to perform the very dance that
injured him in the first place, if he gets the green light to take to the floor
on Saturday
The DIY SOS star, 62, will find out tomorrow whether he can dance again or
will instead be leaving the BBC competition for good
‘It’s unfortunate it’s a Charleston because it’s very hard to do without lots of knee action, but there is no alternative.
Everyone has their fingers crossed for him.’
MailOnline has contacted representatives for Nick Knowles and Strictly Come Dancing for comment.
The Charleston features a long of leg action, including t’s
famous knocky knees and legs flying into the air.
If all goes well and Nick gets permission to dance, he will be
performing Rain on the Roof from Paddington 2 with his pro partner Luba
Mushtuk.
It comes just after Nick revealed a major health update in regards to his future on Strictly on Wednesday.
He shared an update with fans both on his Instagram account and during an appearance on It Takes
Two alongside Luba.
In the Instagram video, he told fans: ‘So I’m behind the scenes
at It Takes Two and the good news today is that the physios have cleared me to train tomorrow.
‘That’s not an all clear for Saturday yet.
I have to see how I get on tomorrow and then a decision will be made on Friday.

‘So, obviously we’ll update you as we go along.
But I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you for all the well wishes that I’ve
received and encouragement from everybody. And I’m hopeful that I will be dancing on Saturday.’
Then, being interviewed by Janette Manrara during the BBC dance competition’s
spin-off show It Takes Two, Nick went into detail about what happened on Friday.
He explained: ‘We’d had a great week learning the dance
and we were doing the camera tech rehearsals where the cameras get to see how
the dance works and everything.
‘Very last step of the dance I was late getting to where I should and leapt to the position and my one leg stayed still and the rest of me
went through.
‘Had a bit of a collapse and realised it wasn’t in a good position.
I hurt my knee basically.’
On the bright side, he added: ‘Each day gets a little bit better. On Friday, it looked
pretty bad to be honest. Saturday was not so good but I got a scan and so
we decided to wait until Monday so we could have a look at that.
‘Monday was a little bit stronger and today I got the see the physios and I’ve had help
from all the rehab and physio’s and doctors and they have given me clearance to try and dance tomorrow to train.

‘If I train tomorrow then it might not necessarily be the end
of it. We will see how I do tomorrow and that is
all we can say at the moment.’
The duo confirmed that a final decision will be made on Friday, and Luba told Janette: ‘Tomorrow
we will try and we will go gentle and see what
we can do and what we can’t and then adjust it.
‘We will take it step-by-step and see what is comfortable and maybe what is feeling uncomfortable.
We will create it together.’
It comes after fans worries intensified when he was not included in the list of this week’s songs
and dances that are always announced the Wednesday before the next live show.
The show’s Instagram page did say however: ‘We will update
with more news on Nick when we have it.’
In accordance with BBC rules the couples can only miss one week due
to injury and then they must leave the competition.
Nick also revealed he was ‘gutted’ to have missed out on Strictly last
week as he watched Saturday night’s show on crutches.
He wrote on X: ‘Gutted not to be out there with everyone tonight on the dance floor, but still
suited up and cheering them on from the sofa!’
Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left baffled over whether Nick

Requires complete focus; traders who are part-timing will find scalping incredibly difficult.
Demands high levels of concentration as missing the smallest of moves can bring in pouring losses.
Making small mistakes can lead to disastrous consequences.

Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about
him enjoying an exclusive and discretionary perk from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.
The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge,
an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and services handed out by the airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s
most exclusive club’.
Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane that he
was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally
sacked hundreds of workers’.
Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about what they think about that.’
Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s
ruling that Qantas illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought by Transport Workers Union.
Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it a ‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their
families’ in a Facebook post. ‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.
Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be
a little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’
Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax big
corporations heavily show the perks were not
impacting the Greens.

How Greens leader Adam Bandt spent thousands on private jet flights while lecturing YOU about climate change
Mr Bandt was spotted in September flying business class from Melbourne to Canberra seated next to Senator Jacqui Lambie.
Albanese government ministers Tim Watts and Catherine King were on the same flight
but were with the masses in economy class.
It has been previously reported that Mr Bandt opts to frequently
fly business despite his party’s core policy of cutting C02 emissions.
Flying business class emits about three times as much carbon as economy class because the
seats take up more room and more of them are empty,
according to a World Bank study.
Fellow Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather last year said he had
shunned a Chairman’s Lounge membership and refuses to
travel business class.
Earlier this year Mr Bandt’s flying habits led to controversy.
Mr Bandt’s flying habits have been a previous source of controversy after it
was revealed he frequently opts for business class and has even taken private jets to election events
Mr Bandt used two private jets during the 2022 federal election campaign, landing tax payers with the $23,000
bill.
One flight was between Queensland regional
centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March 7 but he also boarded a
$15,000 private plane along the well-travelled Brisbane
to Canberra route to attend his party’s election campaign launch.
Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat
with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Club members.
He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one he is
alleged to have received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge authored by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.
The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling to hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.
With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear
to have retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.
However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted.
WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?
The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company
chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.
It has been dubbed ‘the most exclusive club in the country’ and comes with a distinct black card.
Members include senior-ranking MPs including ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister,
leaders of major unions and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors,
selected A-list celebrities, major corporate figures and
high-profile media personalities.
The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and
Adelaide but are not signed, you have to know where
to look.
Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool carpet and marble flooring all bathed in natural light.
Members enjoy fine à la carte dining with a complimentary premium array of beers, spirits
and Australian wines. Wine bottles are often given as departing gift
Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books
and magazines.
Members may bring in two guests at a time.
Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is to board and
your personal preferences are logged for each flight.
Membership also entitles you to first-class facilities at Qantas
partner airlines.

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of
their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?
In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral
reforms that the major parties look set to come together to
support.
The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals
can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates
to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party can spend
at an election – actually less than the major
parties currently spend.
The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency of
who makes political donations in the first place.
So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent to which they
can use their wealth at all will be limited.
The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency
that disclosures of donations need to be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details
of who has given what to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much
greater transparency and far less big money being injected
into campaigning by the wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties
were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’
Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a warning shot – saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT
senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’
Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to $16,000 under
the current rules, will need to disclose
having done so. And how much they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’,
‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding out that
Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of
the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what exactly
before even starting to write this column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is
being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a
growing cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too
much on this issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer
Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court
The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their
irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)
The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à
Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from
the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations
rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms
that will curtail dark art of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by the way.
It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch the crossbench out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition.
I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws with
a fine tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor
to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would
create loopholes only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal
to get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what
is being advocated for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being
in politics to ‘clean things up’.

LUXEMBOURG, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Germany’s economic model is not broken but Europe’s biggest economy has lost competitiveness
over the past decade, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Monday.
“We can’t be satisfied with the economic developments in Germany,” he told journalists ahead of a Eurogroup meeting.
The German economy is expected to contract by 0.2% in 2024, an economy ministry spokesperson said on Monday, cutting the forecast from a previous projection of 0.3% growth this year.
If realised, this would be the second consecutive
year of contraction for Germany’s economy, which was the weakest among its large euro zone peers
last year with a 0.3% decline in gross domestic product.
Lindner said the government was introducing supply-side measures to try
to return the economy to growth.
“After these reforms, Germany will have more competitiveness again,” Lindner said, adding that the growth initiative was just a first step for an economic turnaround, “but we have to build on it.”
AMBITION NEEDED
Lindner said “ambition” was needed to keep EU public finances in order, or to put them
back in order where necessary.
“I can only encourage everyone to implement structural reforms and to make unpopular decisions,” Lindner said.
“What seems to be unpopular at the moment is the willingness to take responsibility for the next generation and for the stability of the European Union as a whole.”
Lindner said he could not comment on the French budget plans
because he had not had the chance to talk with his French colleagues yet, but he would do so on Monday evening.
“We should all realise that the credibility of public finances vis-à-vis the capital markets is not to be trifled with,” Lindner said.
“We must credibly reduce our deficits and our debt so that we can continue to finance ourselves well and in a stable manner.”
