Rachel Potter, a 29-year-old bartender from Nashville, Tennessee, delivered one of the most high-energy auditions in the history of The X Factor USA. Before her performance, Rachel shared her background, explaining that while she worked in a bar, her true passion had always been music. She appeared on stage with a bubbly, approachable personality, but she also carried a clear sense of professional ambition. Having previously worked on Broadway, she was no stranger to the stage, but she was determined to prove that she had what it takes to be a contemporary country-rock recording artist.
For her audition, Rachel took a massive risk by performing Queen’s legendary anthem “Somebody to Love.” While the song is notoriously difficult to sing, Rachel gave it a distinct country twist that showcased her incredible vocal range and power. Her performance was a masterclass in stage presence, blending theatrical precision with raw, soulful grit. As she hit the soaring high notes of the climax, she left both the audience and the judges in total disbelief, proving that her voice was far more versatile and powerful than anyone had anticipated from a “Nashville bartender.”
The judges were unanimous in their praise, with Kelly Rowland and Demi Lovato visibly impressed by her technical control. Simon Cowell, who is often critical of Broadway-style singers, admitted that she had successfully bridged the gap between theater and a modern recording artist. He praised her for having a “stunning” voice and a clear identity as a country star. With four enthusiastic “yes” votes, Rachel moved on to the next round, having established herself as one of the strongest vocalists of the season and a serious contender for the top prize.
