Jonathan Pulley, a transit bus driver from Toronto, Ontario, experienced a life-changing turn of events on Canada’s Got Talent 2025. Known for singing to passengers along his regular route, Jonathan had previously caught the attention of global superstar Drake, who publicly noticed his vocal talent. Jonathan had put his lifelong passion for music on hold years ago to secure a stable job with benefits to provide for his family when his wife became pregnant with their first child. He had been open about his struggles with mental health and the feeling that he wasn’t doing what truly made him happy.
In a dramatic twist orchestrated by the show, judge Howie Mandel wore a disguise, a mask, and a wig to board Jonathan’s bus under the pretense of an ordinary passenger. Mid-route, Howie revealed his identity and surprised Jonathan with an immediate invitation to audition for the show’s $1 million grand prize. With his supportive wife and son cheering from the audience, Jonathan stepped under the lights to perform a deeply raw and emotional rendition of Teddy Swims’ hit “Lose Control.” Despite a visible wave of nerves, his rich, soulful vocals resonated powerfully throughout the theater.
The judges gave a balanced but ultimately supportive critique of his performance. Howie Mandel and the panel acknowledged that his extreme nerves slightly held back his vocal execution, but heavily praised his immense potential and the courage it took to break through his personal barriers on a national stage. While judge Kardinal Offishall gave a “no,” stating it wasn’t quite a million-dollar performance yet, the remaining judges strongly believed in his potential. Securing three vital “yes” votes, Jonathan successfully moved past the nerves to secure his spot in the next round of the competition.
